Many families decide to move to Victoria to experience the amazing life style that VIC offers. With a state full incredible landscapes and unique wildlife, VIC offers a world of entertainment for kids – both free and paid.

This page is designed for migrants to share amazing locations throughout VIC where your kids have had a great day out. It could be learning, eating, playing or holidaying. From nature walks to play groups, any thing you would recommend that kids can attend, so new comers to VIC can find a great day out.

Nature, Wildlife and Outdoors

Sorrento Play Ground

Sorrento Play Ground on the Mornington Peninsula is a wooden park surrounded by greenery with views of the ocean. If you are wanting a free day of entertainment you cant go wrong.

Cape Schanck

We found a place for guaranteed kangaroo viewing if you go at dawn or dusk. Signposted Highfield there is a small car park and track to follow. Once on raised ground you will see lots of kangaroos jumping around the hills.

Located by a tram stop, it’s a great place to spend the day!

Myuna Farm, Doveton

MCG

At the MCG after the matches are finished occasionally the kids are allowed to play on the oval. Jett was lucky enough to have this opportunity after his first ever AFL game.

Cape Schanck

Cape Schanck is a beautiful place to visit if you like nature! Very scenic. In the winter you will find people whale watching as the whales are migrating past this area. Lovely walks and lighthouse. You can book to climb up the lighthouse also.

Nippers

Nippers is ages 5-13. It is the best way to get your kids comfortable around water out side of swimming classes. Its a very Australian activity and great fun to watch!

Surfing lessons

There are surf schools all along the coast of Victoria. If you want your kids to have confidence around the water and learn how to look for rips and read the waves.

Gravity Zone, Seaford

The kids (all ages) love it here. It gets quite busy in the kids holidays but keeps them entertained for hours. There are trampolines, soft play, laser tag, hollogate, ninja course and more. Grab lunch whilst you’re there too.

The Shed

The Shed Skate Park in Cranbourne is an indoor park and is suitable for BMX, scooter and skating. Its in a massive warehouse and has ramps and jumps. you can even book birthdays there.

The Frankston Sharks BMX club in Frankston is an out door course. You can join the club and enjoy the community and attend the race meets. Its a social and sporting club. The kids have a way to burn energy and enjoy them selves whilst making friends.

Yawa

This pool is newly built and is great. Obviously there is a swimming pool but also a splash zone with slides, squirters, water guns, fountains etc. In the holidays there is also a large inflatable obstacle course for 6 years and over. You need to book this but it’s great fun (tiring) for the slightly older kids and teens.

Theme Parks

Luna Park

Spend time at Luna Park and go on all the rides!

Take a walk along the esplanade and grab some hot chips.

You may even see some penguins at dusk 🙂

Gumbuya world

Gumbuya World is an amusement park in Tynong North. It’s a water, wildlife and theme park – The Jones Family

SeaLife Melbourne

Sea Life is in Melbourne CBD. They do holiday programs as well as a great day out seeing things from Penguins, Sharks, Stingrays and interactive exhibitions.

Funtopia Knox

Melbournes tallest indoor play area. Located in Westfield shopping centre. The Jones Family.

Day Trips

Badgers Creek

Badgers Weir at Badgers Creek is a great place to spend the day with your family. there are picnic area and facilities along with amazing nature walks and we were luck enough to have the local fire brigade stop past to check the tracks whilst we where there.

The Big Goose, Moorooduc

The Big Goose is a kids farm with petting zoos and shows. There is also a cafe on site that makes a great coffee!

Bounce, Keysborough

Fantastic venue for all the kids to burn off energy. There are multiple venues across Victoria and interstate too!! Pricing not too bad, I felt we had a lot of activities to do and take the younger kids in the week whilst they are not in kinder for a couple of hours for a bounce – Jess

Holiday Program

Junior Rangers is a holiday program that is Australia wide run by the Parks Departments of each state. They introduce kids to nature with a real park ranger!

Evenings

Rosebud Cinema

Rosebud Cinema is a boutique cinema on the Mornington Peninsula. It is generally pretty quiet and has plenty of parking and all of the new releases.

Dromana Drive in

Obviously there is always the cinema to entertain kids but in Dromana they have a drive in. A totally cool cinema experience with an authentic American diner. They have up to date movies too. The kids loved wrapping up warm and taking their duvets to sit in the boot of our car and watch the movie of their choice

Educational

Yawa Aquatic Centre

Yawa Aquatic Centre is a new facility on the Peninsula. There is a kids water park that is only operational during specific times of the day so call and check first and they do inflatable parties and events that have a water obstacle course for the kids.

Twisted Science

An Afternoon out at Twisted Science, both fun and educational and suitable for all ages! Ideal for a rainy day.

Junior Rangers Program, Blairgowrie

This is a free program for kids that runs in the holidays. The children learn from the rangers interesting facts about where they live and take part in fun activities. The children really enjoy it. This holidays we spotted dolphins, cleaned up our local beach, learnt about microplastics, foraged for edible plants and made pizza!

Imaginaria

Walkthrough play experience located in Docklands – allow about an hour.  The Appletons

Mt Buller Ski and Snowboard School

Mt Buller is not a cheap location but is a great place for the whole family. There are amazing instructors for both ski and snowboarding and they are well worth the time. There are classes or private lessons available. We started in the learners area where there is a small slope and magic carpet to get the basics. You can then move to the green runs once you have the confidence.

Mont de Lancy

Located in the Yarra Valley – it’s a great place for a day trip with lots of experiences to take part in.

Other

Comic-Con Melbourne

Incredible day! Happens every year in most states. I spent most of the day in the stalls but you can attend Q&As with actors, have a meet and greet or attend multiple activities. Perfect for the whole family.
